Question:

Naming my child after my dogs?

i have two golden retrievers ones names Harry and the other is named Barney. When i was 5 months pregnant (three months ago) there was an electrical fire in my house in the middle of the night. i had a 2 year old in the bedroom right near the living room where the fire broke out. there was smoke all in the hallway right near my child's door. my two dogs ran into her room and grabbed her by the shirt and drug her out of her room and ran into my room and started barking. When i woke up there was smoke everywhere and the whole living room was up in flames. If they haven't done what they did i could have lost my life and God forbid my child could of lost her life. So now i'm thinking of naming my unborn child (who is a boy) James Harry (or Henry or Harrison) Barney(or Barnard) and the last name is Corbett. So what do you think, these dogs are really heroes and they are a big part of my life. I was in a deep sleep and i probably would not have woke up until it was to late.

  1. James Harrison Barnard..

thank god you don't have a dog named Sparky of FiFi

that would not make a good name for a child

  2. I like James Harrison Barnard.  Good luck!

  3. I think it's okay but just give the baby one of the dogs names then think of something else

  4. I like James Harry Barnard.

By the way, that's really good story. I'm happy all of you are ok! =)

  5. I like your idea of modifying the names slightly for your child.  It's a little tacky to name your kids exactly after your pets.

  6. Wow what great dogs you have!! I am glad that everyone is safe.

    I like James Harrison.

  7. I wouldn't. Then again, I don't like human names for dogs, so maybe that's just me.

  8. Hey there,

Wow, what a great story. I was at the edge of my seat reading it. I have 14 neices and nephews and I have learned that they love, love to hear about their past and how they got their name.

I can't think of a better story to tell your son about how he got his name. It will probably be a source of pride for him when he tells his friends and others.  Having said that I love the James Henry Barnard....

It seems like most people I know these days that are having kids are taking more traditional names.

    Good luck
