Nan Wei secured a quarter-final berth at Indonesia International Challenge – Badminton News
Hong Kong’s Nan Wei continued his positive run on court and remained successful in securing his berth in Men’s Singles quarter-final at the Prim-A Indonesia International Challenge 2013, which is being played at Surabaya, Indonesia.
In the round-of-16 match, the fourth seeded Nan Wei had to work really hard to register a narrow win over Indonesia’s Adnan Fauzi, on Thursday, July 4.
The higher ranked Nan, who has been working hard to find a breakthrough in the current year, had to dig deep into his reserves to overpower his local rival in a thrilling battle that took 61 minutes of top class game from both
sides.
Nan remained struggling hard throughout this pre-quarter-final contest. However, he controlled his nerves on crucial occasions and secured a tight victory in straight games with a tight, 23-21 and 22-20 score on the board.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Adnan won the hearts of huge crowd by playing at his best. He put up wonderful show of attacking and positive badminton all the way. However, he committed a few errors in the concluding points and lost
the contest with a respectable total.
It was the best match of the day when both players grabbed the attention of crowd with their aggressive and positive skills. They progressed while staying close to each other on the score board in the opening half of first set.
The battle continued in the same thrilling fashion after the one-minute interval. Both shuttlers tried their best to set up even a small lead but they failed in their efforts. The score reached at the breath-taking stage of 21-21
when Nan executed a few wonderful strokes and won the game with a close margin of 23-21.
In the following set, the contest was again very tight as both shuttlers locked their horns in the same aggressive manner. They continued pushing each other everywhere and stayed close until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Nan tried to dominate the pace by increasing his speed but failed to shake the confidence of his young opponent. The score again was equal until 20-20 when Nan showed his seniority once again and managed to bag
the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
