Nan Wei tames Yuki Kaneko in Men’s Singles qualification round of 2012 Li Ning China Masters
Hong Kong’s budding shuttler Nan Wei alarmed all the contestants of Li Ning China Masters with his stunning performance against Yuki Kaneko in the qualification round on September 11, 2012.
This hard fought battle remained in full swing for 55 minutes before ending with final result of 17-21, 21-15 and 21-14.
Both contenders kept the audience intact with their breath-taking performance throughout this three-set match.
The victorious shuttler showed commendable fighting spirit and secured a berth in the next round despite of losing the first set.
On the other hand, the Japanese player failed to make the best out of his initial advantage and crashed out of this Super Series.
Yuki Kaneko had a prefect start as he bagged first match point on merit and elevated his chances to excel in preliminary round of the tournament.
He laid foundation of his dominance by ruling the court in couple of opening rallies. He placed a decent total of 5-2 and kept on stepping forward at a steady pace.
He did not lose this flow and gathered valuable points to place a respectable margin of 11-8 before the interval.
After mid-game break, the shuttler from Hong Kong made every effort to narrow the gap but he could not stop his challenger from claiming victory with a decisive figure of 21-17.
However, Nan Wei did not lose heart after this blow and stormed back with a strong reply in the following game.
Though, he looked a bit confused in the beginning but then a few productive rallies boosted his confidence. He played with great conviction and established his grip with a 11-6 score.
Later part of the game completely belonged to Nan Wei as he showed elevated craft and blew his opponent with a staggering knock of 21-15.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking contest but Nan Wei proved all the predictions wrong by winning the third set convincingly.
This time he mounted pressure by putting a notable margin of 11-5 and then magnified the impact by registering a 21-14 score on the board.
Now he is scheduled to meet the Chinese campaigner Wenlong Zhou and the win will ensure his presence in the main draw of China Masters Super Series.
