Nancy Lopez running promotional campaign for US Women's Open
US Women’s Open 2012, which is going to start from July 5-8, has started stirring interest in golf fans, as Nancy Lopez is running a promotional programme for the event.
Nancy Lopez, a legendary golfer, has taken up the role to promote the major championship in a bid to bring more spectators and media coverage.
Analysts have predicted that the US Women’s Open is going to lure more than it did last year and this is why Lopez is taking keen interest in the event.
Lopez was famous for her amazing style on the course, but the when it comes to US Women’s Open, her role becomes more and more crucial.
Although she has never been able to win the US Open, her career plans were heavily influenced by the desire to shine at one of the most prestigious major titles of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
The American prodigy always did her best to garb the title in her career, but every time she came close to a victory, she was hampered by careless moves on the course.
The year 1998 was not so good for Lopez, as she came close to grabbing a victory at the US Open at Blackwolf Run.
She made sensible strokes on the most of the holes and fought hard to move ahead on the leaderboard.
Unfortunately, her rivals were quick enough to surge past her, causing her to miss the cut.
Recounting her experience at Blackwolf Run in the 1998 US Open, Lopez said that she did not worry about what happened to her game.
She said after recording 4 runner-up finishes in the most prestigious LPGA event, she was in a bit of comfort.
"I was so glad I missed the cut," Lopez said jokingly and added that the US Open 1998 not only featured a strong field, but the course had its own difficulties.
She said that carding a 6-over-par took a toll on her overall performance.
The American legend is not going to participate in the tournament, as she is only partly involved in professional golf these days.
The last edition of the US Women’s Open was won by So Yeon Ryu, whereas American star Paula Creamer stole the show at the 2010 event.
