Nandagopal K. trounces Joonas Korhonen in Men’s Singles qualifying round of Finnish Open 2012

India’s Nandagopal K. showed his elevated craft and secured his berth in Men’s Singles main round after trouncing Joonas Korhonen of Finland in the qualifying round of Finnish Open 2012 in Finland, on Thursday, March 29.
Nandagopal played on a completely different level in this contest as he did not face any sort of trouble while playing against the local shuttler who also had the support of home crowd on his side.
The Indian remained on track in the whole match and did not show any mercy to Joonas at any stage. He ended the fight in straight games by taking just 23 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Joonas could not play his normal game as he had no answer to the fast and perfect play of his Indian rival and bowed down in straight games.
Right from the initial points, Nandagopal maintained his supremacy in the court by dictating the pace of bird in all areas. He was in his prime form and did not show any sign of slowing down his speed at any stage.
Until the end of opening half in the first set, Nandagopal was leading the game with a comfortable margin on the board.
After the break, Joonas tried to change his tactics but failed to take the bird early as his opponent kept the pace of rallies at highest level.
Nandagopal remained in full control and did not face any trouble from his local rival. He ended the opening set with an impressive 21-11 score on the board.
In the second set, Joonas lifted up his level to match the speed of his opponent and was successful in remaining close on the score board.
On the other hand, Nandagopal could not manage an early lead this time as his opponent was playing better badminton. Until the break, the score was quite tight on the board.
After the interval, Nandagopal started to put variations in his strokes and remained successful in breaking the flow of his opponent. He was positive in the ending phase of second set and won it with a difference of 21-17.
Nandagopal emerged as the winner of this qualifying round encounter in straight games with an inspiring margin of 21-11 and 21-17.
