The Manchester united winger, who featured in his side’s 1-0 loss by Germany, is dismayed by the unfair criticism.
The midfielder was a doubt for his side’s opening fixture of the European Championship, but he faced a late fitness test and was passed fit to start for Seleccao.
Luis Nani’s role in the game against Germany was heavily criticised as the Iberian side failed to convert any of the chances produced. A lot of anger and criticism was vented towards the Red Devil’s winger, who was rather unhappy
when blamed for his side’s loss.
"I do not think about what others say. It is normal and the criticism has been going for some time. It is easier to criticise than to help,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
The winger stresses that he knew he gave his all for the Seleccao and considering he was not fully fit, everyone should cut him and his team some slack.
"I just think about the national team: if we can give the people some joy, all the better; but if we cannot, we need to know that we gave our best. We are not machines." He added.
Although Nani is expected to start on the wing for his side’s must win clash against Denmark, but there have been suggestions that Paulo Bento’s might start him in the middle to fully utilize his abilities. The winger reiterates
his desire to play on the wing, but he also states that he is more than willing to play where his manager believes he should
"My position is close to the line, I believe that is where I will continue to play, but the coach is the one to decide. But do not start thinking that I will play in the middle!" he further added.
Paulo Bento’s side looked better of the two, but failed make their domination count as the Germans restricted them to long shots. Some courageous defending from the two Die Mannschaft defenders Mats Hummels and Holger Badstuber
denied Portugal the chance to share the spoils.
If Portugal fail to win their clash against Morten Olsen’s side then they might find themselves out of the competition, which will be a huge blow to a team of their stature.
