Nannes praises IPL for being “a good learning experience” –Cricket News Update
Paceman Dirk Nannes has praised the Indian Premier League for serving as a platform for players from around the globe to interact with each other and gain experience.
“IPL is a good opportunity to talk to other players. As a bowler, I am talking to batsmen. I think IPL is a good learning experience. With people collaborating with each other at various levels, I feel it has improved world cricket over the last few years,”
Nannes said.
The Aussie pacer, whose career spans 142 Twenty20s and 17 T20Is, has yet to feature in the playing XI for his team (the Royal Challengers Bangalore) in the current ongoing 5th season of the IPL. While he admitted that the wait could be frustrating,
he added that it was important to come into the tournament “with an air of patience.”
“You realise there are so many good players around, so many international players. The tournament is so long that you will get a game eventually,” he said.
However, the 35-year-old claimed that he was handling the frustration well, and concentrating on maintaining a positive outlook.
“One would be upset and angry at not getting a game, but that's not what I am thinking about. I stay very positive,” he insisted.
Despite his patient attitude, the left-armer is undoubtedly keen on joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Daniel Vettori-led side is currently second last on the league points table, having won only 2 of their 5 matches.
They began the season on a high note, securing a 20-run win against the Delhi Daredevils at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on April 7, but followed that up with 3 consecutive defeats. After conceding a 42-run defeat to the Kolkata Knight Riders on
home ground, the Challengers went on to lost to the Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets, and then to the Rajasthan Royals by 59 runs.
Their most recent match however, against the Pune Warriors on April 17, saw them clinching a 6-wicket win, aided by the heroics of Chris Gayle (who scored 81 off 48 balls), AB de Villiers (33 off 14), and Saurabh Tiwary (who contributed 36 off 23 and ended
the match with a six).
