I am looking for my first real nanny job.

I am interviewing for one live in now with two boys

dad stays home how much should I ask for?

Also, can you please help with these questions?

1. What is your favorite children's ages for a nanny

job (not so difficult; I am new)

2. Would you accept a job where the dad "works

from home"

3. Would you accept a job from 7am to 6pm and

the two kids cannot watch any TV (what do you do

then in this time?)

4. As a live in nanny, what is the base pay (I have

no previous nanny experience but I have a Degree

and have been a teacher in the past with pre school)

5. Where are good online places to find families,

and how can I keep myself safe? (I am scared

to find a psycho family !) they ask background checks

on us; but would it be offensive if i wanted to do a

background check on them? after all, I am living

in thier house....sigh

Thanks !!

  1. I just got hired to be a live in nanny for one boy.. I also got offered two other jobs. I've never been a nanny before and I've only had some babysitting experience so I was really nervous, but I obviously did pretty well.

    1. You just have to be honest about what ages you like. I prefer school age children and that's what I told the family even though they have a toddler.

    2. Again, something you have to be honest with. If you don't feel comfortable working for a family where the dad stays home don't waste your time or theirs.

    3. You should be able to think of plenty of things to do with the kids, although it depends on their ages. There's a bunch of websites that give you ideas.. just try to find them.

    4. Find out what is expected from you. Do you have to do any housekeeping? Drive them anywhere? Ask them what they are willing to pay. Usually it's negotiable. $200 - $250 a week is reasonable.

    5. I used enannysource.com.  I found several great families.. just make sure you get back to them quickly since most of them want to get someone before school starts. Asking them for references or doing a background check should be fine. If they have a problem with that then you should probably find a new family.

Hope this helps and good luck!
