  1. This isn't a story from a nanny I hired. Its a story from when I was a little girl. I was nearly six. I still remember the way I felt, how scared I was, and how much I wanted my parents back. My parents were gone for a week looking for a new house in the state we were moving too.

This nanny Ruby (name not changed) was horrible. She wouldn't allow my little sister (Age under 1) to have her nuk. She tied my brothers hands behind his back so he wouldn't suck his fingers... etc. These are things I remember.

What I remember the most is the day my parents were coming home. I went to get the mail at the end of the driveway and I got yelled at, and I thought she was going to hurt me. I ran and hid behind the neighbors house just as I saw my parents van driving up. I hid near the garden hose behind the A/C unit. (Both hoses and A/C units still remind me of Ruby)... Okay done rambling.

What I am trying to say is that little kids can remember horrible times even if it was only for a week. I never experienced something like this with my parents or other caregivers. I will never forget Ruby. My parents found her through our church nursery. You can never be too careful. My mom still kicks herself in the butt for hiring Ruby. She still apologizes to me. (I am now 23) Do you research, background checks, talk to others who have used that particular person.

  2. Screen your nanny before you hire her and treat her right. The main reason nanny's act out is because the parents take advantage of them or treat them like c**p. You need to remember they are not servants, they are employees. Do an intensive background check and get lots of references.

All of the nightmare stories I have heard start out... "We hired her for 40 hours a week... slowly that grew to 60... she stopped having days off and worked 7 days a week. Some nights we just didn't come home till late at night.... then one morning she snapped and left us with no notice. I had to miss work and watch my kids. I don't understand why she left...."
