Nao Omura wins heat 4 of Round 1: ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro
Heat 4 of Round 1 at the 2011 ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro was dedicated to Japanese surfer, Nao Omura, who beat Australian surfer, Georgia Fish in a cliff hanger match with a fringe margin of 1.05 points at Praia do Guincho beach
in Portugal, on June 10, 2011.
Omura snared 10.10 points out of a 20 possible points, while Fish wound up second with a total score of 9.05 points and Kaleigh Gilchrist of USA was placed third with a mark of 8.35 points in the corresponding heat. Placed fourth in the heat was Portuguese
surfer, Carina Duarte with a score of 6.30 points.
After the accomplishment of heat 4 in Round 1, Omura said that the current was immense at the Praia do Guincho beach and she had to strive hard in order to win the battle over other challenging surfers. Meanwhile, Fish did not feel any kind of regrets after
the heat, as she gave her best performance in it.
With this win, Nao Omura of Japan qualified for Round 2 of the championship along with Aussie surfer, Georgia Fish. Omura will compete with Sarah Baum (ZAF), Francisca Santos of Portugal and Nicola Atherton of Australia in heat 7 of Round 2.
On the other hand, Georgia Fish will be in front of Ornella Pellizzari of Argentina, Pauline Ado of France and Claudia Goncalves of Brazil in heat 8 of the competition. Kaleigh Gilchrist and Carina Duarte were eliminated from the tournament after being placed
third and fourth in heat 4 of Round 1, respectively.
Both, Gilchrist and Duarte were not pleased with their individual performances in the corresponding heat. The current was very challenging for both surfers throughout the heat that actually led them to surf persistently alongside the stinging waves.
Despite their valiant efforts in the respective Round, they went not able to impress and qualify into the next phase. Hailing from USA and Portugal respectively, the surfers will hope to perform well in upcoming events.
