Naoko Fukuman, Kurumi Yonao emerge as Women’s Doubles champions - Scottish International Update
Women’s Doubles team Naoko Fukuman-Kurumi Yonao of Japan ruled the court in the final round of the Scottish International and clutched the top spot on the victory stand on November 25, 2012.
They stamped the higher ranked compatriot duo Yonemoto Koharu-Yuriko Miki in a 47-minute tussle which ended with concluding figures of 23-21 and 21-18.
Though, this encounter concluded in just two games but still the local badminton lovers stayed glued to their chairs until the last shot was played.
Both Japanese teams put a commendable show of skills and their honest effort was applauded by the audience.
In first set of the match, the second seeded pair Yonemoto-Yuriko made swift progress and reached a commanding position of 4-1.
However, the opposing team showed a strong character and their rivals’ expedition to halt. The twosome of Naoko and Kurumi performed beyond expectations and managed to pile up a respectable total of 11 before the announcement of a break.
After the one-minute interval, both pairs put all in their possession to oust the opponent but neither of them could make a notable difference.
They remained equal until the third quarter of the set and a 17-17 score subjected them to a tough trial. Both Japanese teams strived hard to tip the scale in their favour and finally this cliff-hanging tussle ended when Naoko and Kurumi placed a tight yet
decisive margin of 23-21.
The following game turned into a dead contest as the suppressed duo of previous set failed to come out of their competitors’ influence and crashed out in a woeful manner.
On the other hand, Naoko and Kurumi showed consistency in their performance and transformed their 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory.
They laid the foundation of their dominance by registering a 7-1 margin in the beginning and then doubled the impact with a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
Later part of the game saw them controlling overall pace of the rallies and raising their lead with 17-11 margin.
Though, Yonemoto and Yuriko strived hard to narrow the gap but they could not hit the mark until the final moments.
Naoko and Kurumi kept on gathering valuable points and swept the table with a significant score of 21-18.
