Naomi Broady
surpasses Anne Kremer
in 1st round – Slovak Open 2011
British Naomi Broady got the best of unseeded Luxembourgian Anne Kremer in three sets during the first round of the Slovak Open 2011.
Both challengers duelled against each other on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia. It took the Briton only one hour and fifty two minutes to defeat the Luxembourgian by bouncing back from
a set down to score 5-7 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday the 16th of November 2011.
Serving first was Broady and both the players held their respective serves for the first four games to tie the score at two games each. Subsequently, the two constantly matched an eye for an eye and once again two held their respective
serves in the next four games t o tie the score at four games each by the end of the eighth game.
During the ninth and the tenth game, the players bartered in breaks and the score levelled at five games each. At this point the match could’ve titled either way but it was a lucky break for Kermer. As she capitalized on a break
she then held her serve for the last time in the set to clog the opening set with a 7-5 victory.
Broady then decided to pull her socks and took a notch higher in her performance. During the second set the head-to-head run carried on and the score kept tied at two games each by the end of the fourth game. However, from there
onwards Broady cut the cat and mouse chase by holding her serve in the fifth game and then by capitalizing on a breakpoint to reel two successive games.
By the end of the sixth game the score had progressed to 4-2 with Broady leading the set. In the following two games she tactfully repeated the feat and squared the opening set with a 6-2 victory.
At the end of the second set both the players had bagged a set each and opening the determining set was Broady. This time the players had bagged a game each at the end of the first two games. At the end of the fourth game the Briton
had capitalized on a pivotal breakpoint as this was the only breakpoint in the entire set.
From there on wards each player kept bagging her respective serve and the score h ad progressed to 5-2 at the end of the seventh game. Even though, Broady was unable to close the match immediately in the next game, she managed
to do so in the ninth game.
Broady will now be facing third seeded Hungarian
Tímea Babos in the second round of the tournament.
