Naoya Tomita conquers Men’s 200m breast-stroke title in Moscow: Day one – 2011 FINA World Cup
Japan’s Naoya Tomita stunned Moscow’s crowd with his wonderful swim in the third round of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Russia, on Tuesday, October 18. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 200m breast-stroke final race.
The young Japanese athlete was up against his strongest contestants, Viacheslav Sinkevich of Russia and Kazuki Otsuka of Japan in the 200m breast-stroke final heat. As the race began, Naoya Tomita gave an immense effort and went full throttle to clinch the
gold medal over his rivals by hitting the finishing wall with a record breaking time of 2 minutes and 06.51 seconds.
In the meantime, Sinkevich claimed silver medal by powering the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 06.77 seconds. The bronze title went to Kazuki Otsuka with a mark of 2 minutes and 07.12. Moreover, Russia’s Oleg Kostin produced a wonderful swim over
his rivals and earned fourth place honours by posting a matchless time of 2 minutes and 08.22 seconds.
Then, Chase Kalisz of United States of America continued to impress the arena by hitting the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 09.26 seconds to get the fifth position. In addition, Sergey Silin of Russia got sixth position by submitting an impressive
time of 2 minutes and 09.65 seconds. In the end, the top three players of the respective race were awarded accolades and cash prizes after the session’s completion.
The seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup is a vital series for young guns of Russia, United States, China, Sweden, Australia, Japan and Germany to prepare themselves hard for their futuristic meets of swimming.
More importantly, the World Series is providing a substantial opportunity to all athletes to improve their swimming techniques for their upcoming trials to compete at the London Olympic Games, in 2012. The good thing is that several Olympians like Michael
