Naoya Tomita occupies Men’s 100m breast-stroke gold: Day two – 2011 Swimming World Cup, Moscow
One of the most crucial swimmers of Japanese squad, Naoya Tomita made his present felt to the arena by occupying the title of Men’s 100m breast-stroke on day two of the 2011 Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 19.
Moscow is third juncture of the World Cup series, organised by the international aquatics sport managing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
Tomita, who qualified as the second finest swimmer in the final round behind Russia’s Sergey Geybel restored order in the final round. With his immaculate swim, the 22-year-old Japanese devastated desires of his competitors in the breast-stroke playoff.
He experienced a dominating effort of Geybel in the first-lap, as the Russian took charge of the race and completed his initial half in a time of 27.59 seconds. Tomita remained second fastest swimmer of the event in the initial half as he completed the same distance in a time of 27.74 seconds.
The 22-year-old elevated his efforts in the final round, where he went on a rampage to escape his strongest competitor on the finishing end. Tomita made an astonishing improvement in the second half, where he cruised his way towards the finishing end in a time of 31.07 seconds to post 58.81 seconds on the bulletin board for gold medal.
He stunned the arena with his incredible strength, as he remained 0.32 seconds ahead of his toughest opponent.
Meanwhile, Geybel faced a challenging effort of German swimmer, Marco Koch, who pounced on his shoulder in the final-lap. Geybel failed to deal with Tomita’s scintillating effort and reached the podium for silver medal by producing an effort of 59.13 seconds.
Koch gave a tough time to Russian, as he remained only a touch away from him on the finishing end. He remained just 0.16 seconds slower than Geybel and hit the wall with a 59.29 seconds effort for bronze medal.
 Tomita was delighted after obtaining his first international gold medal, while the Japanese veteran articulated his desire of continuing the same at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
Furthermore, the winners received their accolades in medal ceremony of the championship.
