My girl is 8 months and still needs three naps (her decision). Her morning nap is 2-3 hours, afternoon nap is 1 hour and then right before super about a 45 minute one. She still sleeps through the night. Bedtime is about 7:30- 8pm but lately instead of getting up at 7 am lately she has been getting up 5:30 am- 6 am still seeming tired but refusing more sleep. I thought skipping the third nap was the solution but that was a disaster, poor girl. First time we tried to she was so overtired at bed time she screamed and screamed while I tried everything to calm her. Second time I gave in and tried to nap her. Again she got overtired. So I am just letting go- she needs that nap to much.I am a go with the flow for the most part kind of mom, with a flexible schedule. In other words there are things we do at certain times and need to be done daily but can easily be moved a little forward or back for her.

so here is my nap poll

How old is your little one?

How many naps a day do they take?

How long are they?

What ages did their naps change in time and amount?

Did you have to change amount of naps or did it happen naturally?

If change was by you- How did you do this and was it hard to do?

Do you go with the flow or have a schedule ( set by you or them)?

  1. just a suggestion, but sounds to me like her morning nap is waaaaay to long. instead of taking away her last nap, shorten her first. TRUST ME. I once struggled just like this. I would try waking her up after an hour. If that seems to bee too soon, try an hour and a half, and then wake her up after two the next day if necessary. =) but don't let her sleep the day away! There's too much to explore!

My little boy is 9 months.

He takes three naps as well... most days.

1st nap - 1 hour. 1 1/2 if he woke up earlier than normal.

    2nd nap - 1 hour.

    3rd (if any) - 45 minutes.

he used to sleep too much. Finally started to level out at about 7 1/2 months.

I tried to change them around, but finally i just let nature take its course, and things worked out.

I've always gone by the flow. but I just started working about three weeks ago (at a daycare, so I take him to work with me), and his nap schedule had to change. But he did perfect with the change, and now he's sleeping better at night!!

well good luck with your baby girl! hope this helped.

  2. OK, that was a lot of questions but I'll just do an overall ans. Instead of just removing the 45 min nap in the evening, try cutting it by 5 mins one day 10mins the next day..see where I'm going. Don't just take the nap out cold turkey, allow her body to adjust to it. I've successfully sleep trained 3 children and my 4th is only 3 months so I have 3 more months before i can start with her. All my kids took naps regularly and slept through the night without my help by the time they were between 6-7 mos...good luck

  3. You're blessed!

    My 8 month old:

    two naps/day

    morning -- 1 1/2 to 2 hours

    afternoon -- 1 to 1 1/2 hours

she went from 3 naps/day to two when she was 7 months.  it was a pretty natural change.  we have a good routine, always have, i love it! but i've always followed my baby's cues and stayed flexible.

  4. my son will be 10 months tomorrow

he takes 1 maybe 2 naps a day if im lucky.

  5. My daughter is 13 months, 14 months on the 7th.

    She takes 1 nap.

Usually anywhere from 2 -3 hours.

Her naps changed around 7 - 8 months.

I never changed her naps. I let her make her own schedule. But, anymore I have to wake her up at or soon after 4 or else she will not sleep at night.

Most days it is a schedule, that she made herself, other days is just go with the flow.

  6. Hi. My son will be 2 next month and he still takes 2 naps on most days! He sleeps a lot, but he is very active and never sits still or relaxes when he is awake so he needs it! He has been sleeping from 7ish pm till morning since he was 1. He sleeps in until almost 8 or sometimes later! Then he sleeps from 11ish to 1ish. And again in the afternoon from 3 or 3:30 until 4:30 or 5. It depends. People cant believe he sleeps that much!! I really think it depends on the kid and how active they are. I have just let things happen naturally. he hasn't ever seemed to want to change the nap schedule and it works for us so we have kept it!
