Napkin on right under knife or left under forks?

  1. Oh dear! This is another of those questions that depends on where you are from. In N. America, when the napkin is put with the silver, it is usually napkin on the left, under the forks. Properly, the napkin should be on the side plate, and not under anything.


  2. I totally agree with Old Lady, it all depends where you are. From the Hotel School in Cape Town and in UK, we are taught to place the napkin in the middle or on the middle of the Service Plate and not under anything. The napkin obviously has to be starched and folded into an appropriate shape to suit the occasion too.
