Edinson Cavani’s heroics lead the Partenopei side to the final of the Italian Cup after beating the Tuscan side on 3-2 aggregate score.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 beat AC Siena 2-0 in the second-leg of the semi-final of Coppa Italia at Stadio San Paolo on Wednesday, March 21.
Own-goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955 contributed to the convincing victory for the hosts. The first-leg of the semi-final ended in a 2-1 win for Siena, which means that they lose out by 3-2 on aggregate.
Walter Mazzarri played his full strength side, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Maggio-c9098 returning to the team after missing the weekend league game against Udinese.
On the other hand, Giuseppe Sannino made several changes to his team from the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Novara over the weekend. Marcelo Larrondo and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Brienza started upfront in a 4-4-2 formation for the visitors.
The Azzurri came out hungry to make up for their UEFA Champions League exit, and came extremely close to open the scoring in the 4th minute. Lavezzi’s lovely cutback found Cavani inside the box, but the Uruguayan international
blasted his shot over the bar.
Napoli managed to take the lead in the 11th minute, courtesy an own-goal from Vergassola. Lavezzi’s curling free-kick from the right flank was missed by Cavani, and the Siena midfielder managed to flip it into the back
of his own net to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
After the game drew level on aggregate, Siena looked to hit back immediately after conceding. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paolo-Cannavaro-c29080 made a lovely late block to deny the midfielder a
goal.
Walter Mazzarri’s men continued to dominate the proceedings, and were rewarded for their hard-work in the 32nd minute. Lavezzi led a lovely counter attack before finding Marek Hamsik with a delicious ball on the left
flank, and the Slovakian played it in the middle for Cavani, who blasted a clinical header to make it 2-0 for the Partenopei.
Minutes later, Gokhan Inler blasted a fierce volley, which was spilled by the Robur goalkeeper, but Cavani tipped his shot over the bar from the rebound.
Maggio had to be substituted through injury before the half-time whistle, and was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrea-Dossena-c5683.
After struggling to create the goal-scoring opportunities, Sannino decided to ring some changes at the hour mark. Strikers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Erjon-Bogdani-c12779 were introduced to strengthen the attacking department.
The Tuscan side looked decent in attack, and created several decent scoring opportunities but all in vain. Napoli looked nervous in the dying minutes of the game, as Siena looked to force the game into extra time. Despite threatening
the Napoli goal on numerous occasions, they failed to find the killer goal and were dumped out of the competition.
Napoli have qualified for the final of Coppa Italia after 15 years, and will take on Juventus at Stadio Olimpico Rome on May 20th.
