Napoli President Laurentiis rejects Gilardino reports and coy over striker signing: Serie A news
Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has confirmed that his club will not sign Fiorentina striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Gilardino-c4324, this summer.
Napoli are in search of a new striker and have been linked with the Italian international for the past few days. The Italian side have been linked with several strikers throughout the summer but Laurentiis rejected talks linking
the former A.C Milan forward to Napoli.
The President confirmed that they will sign someone who is ready to play as an understudy to Edinson Cavani and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ezequiel-Lavezzi-c13073. The Patron stated that the club have already signed four or five quality players to the squad this
summer and will see if he needs some more signings.
Talking to the reporters Laurentiis said, “Gilardino won’t be a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 player. The transfer market is still open for us, but only to correct anything that we may have got wrong in this phase. I have invested on four players to
strengthen a squad that is already very competitive.”
The Partenopei have been linked with former Juventus star, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Trezeguet-c10623, as well but despite Laurentiis’s approval for the deal, club manager, Walter Mazzarri, decided against a move for the former French international.
Mazzarri is looking to add depth to all departments of their game and a quality backup striker remains the only thing missing for the club. Laurentiis believes that the squad is ready to feature in the UEFA Champions League and
have the required quality to compete with the best teams in Europe.
The attacking department is the strength of the club and they played a huge role in helping the club to finish third in the league table last season. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955, Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi were the stars of the 2010/11
campaign and formed a formidable attack force.
Few days back, Laurentiis also revealed that he failed in a bid to sign striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mirko-Vucinic-c26024, who instead opted to join Juventus. Napoli will begin the 2011/12 campaign with a home game against Genoa on August 28th,
2011.
