Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro has said that his side will be aiming to finish the current 2010-11 season of the Serie A on at least the third spot.
While talking to a radio channel, the defender said that his side had a great chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in the next season. He labelled qualification for the Champions League the next stage of Napoli’s climb towards the lofty heights
of Serie A from where they fell in the early 90s.

Recently, Napoli lost 3-0 to League leaders Milan and were then knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by La Liga outfit Villarreal. The team bounced back though after a hard fought victory over Catania and now Paolo Cannavaro has stressed that a third place
finish is vital for his side’s chances of breaking into the top four.

top four.
Although it is still hard to say that Napoli are still Scudetto contenders, a place in the Champions League will definitely raise the profile of the club. Cannavaro says that the players know how important it is for them to play in Europe’s biggest club
competition next season. He also acknowledged that although Juventus and Roma have not impressed, his side still faces tough challenges for the third place from the likes of Udinese and Lazio who have impressed a lot in the current season.
However, Cannavaro believes that in Lavezzi, Marek Hamsik and Cavani, Napoli have players who can definitely keep his side in the top four and will not let a good position slip out of their hands.
Napoli host Brescia on 6 March, 2011 and will be looking to consolidate their position in the Serie A.
