The Partenopei skipper laments the team’s performance against Atalanta; believes the final of Italian Cup has distracted them.
Napoli skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paolo-Cannavaro-c29080, has revealed that the Coppa Italia final has distracted his team’s concentration from the Serie A.
The Partenopei have witnessed an appalling run of domestic form of late, and have squandered a wonderful opportunity of finishing in the top-three. After getting knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, the
Azzurri have had a difficult time in the league.
Walter Mazzarri’s men have gone winless in their last five league games, and their previous three matches have culminated defeats at the hands of Juventus, Lazio and Atalanta.
Their only hope of winning silverware this season remains the Coppa Italia, as they are in the final of the competition. The final of the Italian Cup will be played against on May 20th,
but the Azzurri skipper believes that the players are already distracted by it.
While talking to the reporters, Cannavaro insisted:
"I cannot deny that the mind wanders the May 20, but we have to stop it. I won't deny that the thought of being able to lift a trophy with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 is wonderful. It would be a dream come true, but now we must think about Serie A;
we want to finish the season strongly."
Cannavaro believes that lifting the trophy will be a moment of joy for the club, but he has urged his team-mates to remain concentrated on their league endeavours for the time being. He believes that they must look forward to ensure
a third-place finish.
The 30-year-old lamented his team’s performance against Atalanta, suggesting that they looked below par in the game.
"On Wednesday I watched the game against Atalanta from the stands, and I must be honest in saying that I didn't see the usual determination from the team. The fans had the right to whistle at the end, as during the game I expected
a greater effort.”
The Vesuviani will face Lecce in their next league game on April 15th. Napoli are currently placed 6th in the league standings, and are six points behind third-place, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775.
