Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri insisted that Napoli are not a one-man team after the 2-0 win over Bologna which brought them back in second place on the Serie A standings.
The Naples side were without top-scorer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giuseppe-Mascara-c15024 and Marek Hamsik scored the goals.
Cavani has scored 25 goals in 31 League games for Napoli in the ongoing 2010-11 season. The Azzurri have been criticised recently for relying heavily on the Uruguayan striker to score goals. The manager stated that his side’s performance has proved yet again
that they can definitely cope without the star striker and win games in his absence.
Mazzarri also praised Giuseppe Mascara and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Lucarelli-c9627 for their respective contributions in the match and said that he was proud of his team for their unbelievable feat in the ongoing campaign.
“Given Cavani’s absence that was a great reaction from the team, it’s not true that we’re a team of individuals. Those who play less such as Mascara and [Cristiano] Lucarelli are always ready. For a coach that gives you great satisfaction,” the tactician
was quoted as saying.
The manager insisted that his team has performed above expectations and to compete against the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan is a major achievement.
He also revealed that Napoli have a very good chance of winning the title in the ongoing term but admitted that it will be an uphill task to catch AC Milan at the top.
“To get close to them, everything has to go well. We can buy eight players for the price they pay for one, which means they have top class players. Everyone still thinks there are only three teams in Italy [Milan, Inter and Juventus] but Napoli are also
a big team and seeing 15,000 travelling fans go to Bologna proves that,” the former Sampdoria manager concluded.
Napoli are currently placed second in the Italian League table with 65 points and are only three points behind leaders AC Milan with six games to go in the season.
