The Pescara boss insists Ezequiel Lavezzi is more important for the Partenopei side than Edinson Cavani; commended the side’s counter-attacking ability.
Pescara boss, Zdenek Zeman, has commended Napoli’s impressive run in the UEFA Champions League.
The tactician was all praise for Ezequiel Lavezzi, and insisted that the Argentine striker’s services are more imperative for Napoli than his teammate, Edinson Cavani’s.
While talking to the press, the Czech tactician said:
“Cavani is a great player, but I think that Lavezzi is more important.”
He commended the Partenopei side for their spectacular display of defensive and counter-attacking football, and insisted that Lavezzi’s contribution is fundamental to the way the team is playing.
“The Azzurri are very good defensively and they are very impressive on the counter-attack thanks to the skills of Lavezzi.”
Zeman managed the Azzurri in the 2000/01 season, and has always been fond of attacking football as depicted by his 4-3-3 philosophy. However, the manger praised the 3-4-1-2 formation played by Walter Mazzarri.
“I like the way they play. I said that at the start of the season and it still holds up today. They are a team with well implemented tactics and they undoubtedly play the best brand of football.”
Napoli have struggled in the Serie A, but have grown very close to reaching the last eight round of the UEFA Champions league after battering Chelsea 3-1 in the first-leg of the last 16 round.
Zeman believes that the two-goal lead ahead of the second-leg trip in London is good enough to see Napoli through to the next round. However, the experienced coach insisted that Chelsea will not go down without a fight.
“I think the 3-1 first leg advantage over Chelsea will be enough. I’m convinced that they will go through even if it will be tough. They’ll have to fight though.”
Napoli are placed 5th in the Serie A points table, with just five points behind the top-three Serie A standings.
The club has been in tremendous form of late, and the thrashing of Chelsea has given the Naples-based outfit a growing momentum.
