I'm at my wits end. My almost 10 month old will not nap longer then 20 mins at a time. He usually takes three 20min naps a day, and I'll tell ya, it drives me insane.

He is the youngest of 4. My other kids are 8, 5 and almost 2. They were all good nappers. At this age usually two 2 hr naps a day, but this little guy, i cant get more then 20 mins out of him.

Any suggestions and getting him to nap longer?

  1. A dark room with some sort of white noise, like a humidifier or fan or just something to drown out the noises around the house.  He might be hearing the other kids and want to play.

My daughter will not sleep unless the humidifier is going in her room.  Of course a routine for nap time also helps, like a book and some milk every day at the same time.  It will prepare him.

I would try to just get him to nap once a day for a longer period and then work on two ... he might not need two .. my daughter stopped taking two naps at about a year.

Even if he just has some quiet time in his bed with some books and toys.  That might help him stay in bed longer.

    Good luck!
