My 1yr old has developed a very bad and sore nappy rash due to teething. Its stings very bad when i change her nappy. I have tried everything like Vaseline, powder, sudo cream etc... Have now been using cream called mentrium so fingers crossed! The thing is i want to take her on our usual weekly "swim" but im wondering would the chlorine in the water sting her even worse??? Wot do u think? Would it be ok for her or not??

  1. take her to the doctor as rashes are not normal in teething

fevers, diareah, runny nose, lack of appetite are normal not rashes

it could be a yeast infection it could even be the chlorine from your weekly swim she could be allergic to chlorine

the chlorine will sting but shouldnt make her rash worse unless you dont let her dry before putting her nappy on

i suggest letting her be nakey for a little while to let her butt dry properly

  2. I agree get it checked out. My niece's mom thought she had a diaper rash due to teething. Turned out to be a yeast infection.

To answer your swimming question - my son recently had a diaper rash. We used a good diaper cream, a barrier cream, and it didn't seem to hurt him in the pool. He's two so he's old enough to tell us his "bum hurts".

  3. Sounds like it's more than just a diaper rash.  Yeast could be a major culprit.  Teething doesn't cause diaper rash; acidic urine or f***s (like in diarrhea) and bacteria cause it.  Call the pediatrician and get it checked.  And avoid the pool for a while- it may not hurt but it can make it worse.

  4. My daughter had a really bad rash a few months ago that we couldn't get rid of. It turned out to be a yeast infection and the doctor gave us a simple recipe for diaper ointment.

Buy Desitin ointment and Maalox and mix them together with a 1:1 ration. (1 Tbsp to 1 Tbsp) I just kept it in a little tupperware container in the diaper bag. The desitin takes care of the yeast and the maalox neutralizes the acid. This worked wonders for us!!! I keep the ingredients on hand now, just in case.

    Hope this helps!
