Narain Karthikeyan says second HRT driver will have to pay for his seat in 2011 season
Narain Karthikeyan of Hispania Racing Team has said that the second driver of the team will have to pay or bring some sponsor that would take care of the team’s expenditure for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
However, he is confident that his team has a very good financial package for the upcoming season and they will not face any financial setbacks.
HRT are expected to reveal their second full season driver for the 2011 Formula 1 season soon. It was expected that Tonio Liuzzi would be their second driver but since he recently stated that he will not ‘pay’ for a seat at HRT, it seems that his chances
of joining the team are quite low now.
Karthikeyan on the other hand stated that Tonio might pay for the seat and claimed that half of the field brings funding to their teams including drivers and it is not unusual at all.
“The team has some new ideas in the marketing side of things and I feel that they will move forward in this department as well. There will be enough money during the season. However, in F1 more money is always welcome,” said Narain.
Narain Karthikeyan was the first-ever Formula 1 driver who hailed from India. He competed for the first time in the sport with the Jordan team in 2005 and also picked up his first-ever points during the season. In his next two years, he served as a reserve
driver for Williams before moving to stock car racing.
Despite being without a second driver as yet, Hispania Racing Team are hoping for a better performance in 2011 and it would be interesting to see how they perform against their rivals Team Lotus and Virgin Racing Team in the new season.
HRT had a poor 2010 season as they could not pick up a single point during the entire campaign and would be looking to change their fortunes this time around.
