Narain Karthikeyan wants Sebastian Vettel incident to be over now – Formula 1 news
Narain Karthikeyan says that it is time to move forward from his incident with Sebastian Vettel during the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Karthikeyan and Vettel divulged into a public spat over their incident in the race which caused Vettel to lose out on a possible fourth place finish in the race. Vettel ended the race at 11th and pointless.
During the race Vettel was about to lap Karthikeyan and wanted to squeeze out of a corner to overtake Karthikeyan who did not realise that Vettel is trying to move ahead and collided with him giving the Red Bull driver a puncture. Vettel had to pit his car
and lost a possible fourth place finish.
Vettel was animated at his loss and did not hold back his frustration and flayed some indecent gestures to Karthikeyan. After the race Vettel vented more frustration and said that “there are some cucumbers on the road.”
Vettel has been criticised a lot over losing his anger which is against the spirit of the sport.
“I am amazed by the reaction in the media, but I think everyone has to calm down now,” Karthikeyan told AUTOSPORT. “I think we have to deal with it in a mature way and forget about it.”
Karthikeyan has shown his disapproval of the way Vettel has dealt with the incident so far, and has maintained that he does not consider himself to be at fault. He added that Vettel needed to deal with the situation with some maturity.
“At the end of the day, you don't want to get in the way of other drivers – and when you are driving a slow car and being a backmarker you cannot afford to do these things. But these were exceptional circumstances and no one could do anything to avoid what
happened. Jenson [Button] collided with me, came out afterwards and said that he had locked up and it was a racing incident. Nobody does these things on purpose,” said Karthikeyan.
Karthikeyan said that the matter should now be left alone and closed as he wants to focus on the season ahead.
The next Grand Prix is in China on April 15, 2012.
