Narain Karthikeyan wants to improve his qualifying pace in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
HRT driver Narain Karthikeyan has said that he earnestly wants to improve his qualifying pace in the second half of the 2012 Formula 1 season so as to score some reasonable points.
Karthikeyan has been seen struggling with his qualifying performance in the season so far and has not been able to qualify amongst top twenty grid positions in any of the first 11 grands prix. Moreover, he could not participate in the season opener as he
failed to set the pace within 107% of the best time in the qualifying. In addition, he has retired in three races in the season until now.
Although, he has not been able to pocket any points in the first half of the season, nonetheless, he is not upset over his poor performances and is confidently looking forward to make a strong comeback after the ongoing mid-season break.
Furthermore, he believes that he is feeling contended with his race pace as he was able to secure 15th place finish in the Monaco GP. However, he said that he needs to enhance his performance in the qualifying.
Besides, he said that tyre management has been quite challenging in the current season while he said that he can learn from his teammate, Pedro de la Rosa in order to make the necessary improvements in his pace.
“I think that my race performance has been very strong, with my 15th place in Monaco standing out, but in qualifying I've been a bit weaker,” Karthikeyan said. “Right now I'm about three tenths behind Pedro and that's something I have to improve in this
second half, no doubt about it. The tyres have been quite difficult to get used to and Pedro has a lot of experience with Pirelli and McLaren. He's a very good driver who hardly makes mistakes and I must learn from him to improve.”
At present, he is standing at 23rd place in the drivers’ championship. Additionally, he is ahead De la Rosa and is behind Marussia pair of drivers, Timo Glock and Charles Pic.
Let’s see how the Indian driver performs in the season ahead.
