  1. It's famous because land in South America is very agriculture-friendly and narcotics are well produced in south american lands. Nevertheless, it is illegal, and it's the major cause of kidnapping and murder, speacially in Colombia. The profits of narcotic traffic go to the gangs who manage it and to the kidnapping and murders I mentioned. It's sad.

  2. Let me tell you first that some countries in South America like Peru or Bolivia have produced coca leaves since Inca times. However, these leaves are not considered narcotics per se. Nowadays, there are narcotics productions in the jungles of Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and the local government is rying to finish them together with american DEA. Sadly, they narcs are now linked with terrorists so the money keeps flowing into the area and all efforts are fruitless as some cops or government officials become corrupted with all that money and power. Meanwhile, millions of people become more and more addict and some die because of the abuse.
