Question:

Narrowing down my mx bike choice?

If you have seen some of my other questions, you realize that I am trying to find which the best bike for me would be. I am 13 years old 5'11 and 135 pounds. I have pretty much got my heart set on a 125cc mx bike (either honda or yamaha). However, in one of my other questions someone suggested a 250 four stroke for my size and also because of the fact that it is a four stroke. I feel that it is too powerful of a bike for a begginer despite my size. What do you think. And could you give me input on which brand to go with (honda or yamaha but if you think i should get the 250, I might consider a kawasaki)

  1. If you can manage the 125cc then it is not much of a leap to go onto something like a crf250r.  The 250 would have better resale value as the 125cc 2 strokes are being phazed out and not being made by most main manufacturers.

If you still think that you are not going to be able to manage the 250cc perhaps go to a shop and have a sit on a crf150r and see if you think that will be okay for you as at 13 if intending to race you could still race that for a couple of years and you may feel a bit tall on it, and it is still a powerful bike but just not so big.

I tend to prefer Honda as a brand but Kawasaki can be alright as well, but they dont make a 150cc.

If you live near a motocross track go along to a club day and have a look at the bikes and the sections that people ride in, then you may get a better idea of what will suit you.

Good luck with whatever you end up with

  2. Hey man, do what you want, but if you get a 125 you will regret it once you ride a 250F. The 250F is not more to handle than the 125. Although it is faster, it is a much more manageable power which will actually be easier to ride than a 125. Dude, 2 strokes are over, get the 4 stroke and don't look back.

  3. You should get a 125cc Honda

  4. go for the yz125 2 stroke it will beat a 250 4 stroke but a 250 2stroke may have too much power for a beginer but if you think you can handle it go for it and go for the yamaha 2 stroke not 4

  5. a 4 stoke 250 only has a more tourqey power than a 125 and are quicker in top end speed.......they arnt extreamly powerfull a guy your size will have no problem im only 5'8" and only 65kg and i  ride a crf250r with no probs at all and i have rode 125 2 strokes and they are just way to gutless.....trust me get the 250 4 stroke you will never look back

  6. I wouldn't worry TOO much about the size of the bike (you can get 2 and 4 stroke 250s). A 250cc wouldn't be too much for you to handle.  Plus you're 13 so you are going to grow ... alot.... quick, so the last thing you want to do is outgrow the bike.  I'd go for the KX250 if I were you but Hondas are good bikes too.
