I can't seem to find a high-res version of this image. Has NASA released this in High-Res to the public?

The largest I could find is 904 x 915px but, it looks fake ( http://www.lpi.usra.edu/resources/apollo/images/browse/AS16/113/18286.jpg ). This one barely shows any definition of Earth and the mystery object to the left.

Could somone please provide me with a High-Res source for this image, if its out there?

  1. The object on the left is not a mystery: it is the command and service module. The picture was taken from the lunar module after separation. For a high res image go to this site:

    http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/Histor...

    Then expand the image.

Why do you say the 904x915 image looks fake?

  2. The "mystery object" to the left of Earth in your photo is an Apollo command/service module. The photo was obviously taken from the lunar module, either as it was about to descend to the surface, or as it was returning to dock with the CSM. I don't know which mission this was from.

  3. This shot was taken by the luner module, looking back at not only Earthrise, but the Command module, as it was either descending to the moon or rising from.

  4. This is called Earth Rise and is one of my favorite pictures. Back then they did not have hi res pictures .  It is not a fake as I sat the tracking console at Goddard in Washington D,C,

  5. man how gullabel could you be dogg. there both fake cos you can see the edge of the moon. but then theres another moon next to the earth. and if you can see the edge of the moon the earth would be closer than it is in the pic. n again theres 2 moons think about. geez . n there well in a studio. cant you tell

  6. history.nasa.gov/alsj/a16/AS16-113-18286...

is the only one I found when I typed in google image search

    AS 16... high resolution

  7. the "mystery object" is the apollo 16 csm, as seen from the lm.

    sheesh.

  8. This is a shot from the Apollo 16 program (April 1972).  The object to the left of the Earth is the Command/Service Module (CSM).  The original picture was shot with a 70 mm Hasselblad camera, on SO-168 film.  Many more pictures with the CSM in orbit can be found at this link.
