Why aren't Nascar cars regulated by the EPA? Shouldn't the EPA be doing everything it can? Why let this slide?

  1. What would the point be? It's not like Nascar cars account for a significant fraction of pollution or even a significant fraction of automobile pollution.

    Your question seems to come from the philosophy that someone, somewhere might be having a good time, and by golly we had better do something to stop them.

    The EPA solves actual problems. They don't go around looking for things to regulate just because they can.

  2. because the EPA is ONLY authorized to regulate those items which endanger the NATION as a whole..

    it would be hard to present the argument that a few hundred cars running in an oval are any threat to the entire united states!!

  3. Just what we need.....more govt. control.   Relax and finish your cool aid.

  4. They're not street legal and they're only 43 of those running at any single time.

  5. race cars that are nit licensed for street use are exempted from emissions regulations for a couple of reasons;

    1: there are too few of them to have any impact on the environment.

    2: the automakers and the after market use racing as a form of product development.

  6. There are alot of racing vehicles and machines that are not regulated because they are made to run on closed courses. When I say closed course I mean private land. You can buy dirt bikes that have no smog controls because they are intended to run on private race courses. Same with race boats.

  7. There's probably too much money involved in making the cars go as fast as they can.

  8. The EPA isn't concerned with protection the environment, their job is to waste tax money by regulating what you can and can't do on public roads. Since NASCARs aren't really cars and are driven on private property, they're exempt. Silly but true. Burning kerosene mixed with "diesel" to heat crops at night is also legal.
