okay..so i started watching the IRL way before i watched nascar (i just started watching nascar halfway through last year) but now i absolutely LOVE both. but i want to get into F1.

but i've never watched a single F1 race.

so i'd like to have a driver picked to cheer for before i try to watch a race.

& if it helps..my fave drivers in IRL are Wheldon, Marco & Helio & in nascar my faves are Jimmie, Rowdy, Edwards & Kahne.

so maybe drivers that drive or are similar to them?

i dont know.

i am COMPLETELY clueless when it comes to F1

so any thing about it that i should know before watching a race would be great!

  1. I've been a formula 1 fan since 1999.   Got hooked on it by some friends in Rome.   What i did was read the bios of all the current F1 drivers at the time.  One of them,Jarno Trulli, just happened to be from the town in Italy that my grandfather emigrated from, so I picked Jarno Trulli to follow.   It was a great way to really get "into" the sport.   I've had other favorites from time to time over the years, but Jarno is still dear to my heart.   So, try reading all the bios of the current drivers and just pick one that sparks your interest.    Good Luck!   And welcome aboard - - I'm hoping more Americans will get more interested in F1 so we can get the US Grand Prix back in the States.   BTW, I'm not the least bit interested in Nascar - just can't get interested in cars going around a  boring oval.

Oh -another thing . .  there's a website GPtours.com that covers all racing and every year they run contests.   "Pick 8" is the contest they run for F1.   You pick the top 8 points earners for each GP during the season and you accumulate  points depending on how they actually came in for that race.   At the end of the season, the top points earner wins a trip for two to the Monaco Grand Prix!!!    It's too late to get into this years -too far into the season, but if you start learning about F1 now, by next March you'll find that contest really fun to get into.

  2. I just started watching F1 this season, I'm branching out all over the place!!

I picked Fernando Alonso, he seems to have that "edge" I really need my driver to have!!

As far as being "clueless" join the club my friend, I honestly thought that F1 and IRL were the same dang thing up until a couple months ago...

I'm just winging my way through both of them :)

  3. Yes, I have been a fan for years.  I remember the days when the

Monaco Grand Prix was shown on ABC's Wide World of Sports in the 1970's.

  4. I watched F1 when I was in my teens just to p**s my dad off, so I remember the yrs of Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, James Hunt, Ronnie Peterson, Emerson Fittapaldi, Bruce Mclaren, and even earlier drivers as well... I've always been a Mclaren fan, I followed Renault when Prost and Cheever were there, and Brabham with Nelson Piquet and Patrese.. When I lived in Europe I actually had a good photo jig over there had a blast, I live in Europe for 6 yrs covering F1.. (boy was my dad pissed) But I guess since I actually got to meet Bruce Mclaren and Denny Hulme I've always followed Mclaren, I love Lewis Hamilton, I swear he is making more mistakes this yr its driving me nuts..But it is great to see some new faces in Victory Lane, who ever thought Kubica would ever win a race.. Alonzo has always been a rebel I would compare him to Rowdy, well theres no one out there that I can compare Jeff Gordon to as Schumacher has retired,  Kimi the wild party boy, could be Dale Jr, but I do not think Dale Jr is going to pull some of Kimi's (naked wild partying) Jimmie Johnson could be Massa.. Formula One is a different world, I got to see it up close. It can be very formal and stuffy for a lot of people, but I loved it....But I love Nascar more...I always go back to my roots.. If you are on the East Coast, you only have to get up at 6:30 or 7:30am, heck its get up at 4:30 am out here in  Calif...I normally get up to watch the last 30 or 40 minutes but I TIVO it so I can watch it later...Also Speed Tv always has that Formula One Debrief which is great.. One thing for sure, I am holding Kyle Busch to his world he says he wants to drive F1, okay dude win the Sprint Cup and get over there as you can not wait until you are 30 y/o..F1 is all about the young guys.. You are a has been at 35 y/o.. We need a American that has spit and fire and the desire, and I think he has it all...

Go Dale Jr & Hms, Go Hornaday, Go Helio & Go Lewis Hamilton

  5. I only watch the Indy 500!

Only like the people in the lead! That's how clueless I am!!

  6. i like Alanso
