  1. Of course people have heard of her.

She was at or near the top of the Distaff division for the last 2 years.

She put Joe Talamo on the map, he probably wouldn't have won his Eclipse award for apprentice Jockey if not for Nashoba's Key.

  2. oh no, now PETA will protest to ban stalls.

  3. I'm afraid that this sort of thing happens quite a lot.  It just goes to show that horses can injure themselves at any time, not just on the racetrack.

We lost a very good colt about 4 years ago, he'd been taken for a swim in the equine pool and as he was swimming he kicked out with his hind leg and hit the wall.  His leg shattered and he had to be put down.

I have to admit that I had never heard of this horse until news of her accident yesterday (I live in GB so we don't get a lot of the US results over here), but my heart goes out to all connections.

  4. I loved Nashoba's Key! It is cool that your dad knows the former owner. When I watched the Vanity Invitational Handicap, I was like "This filly is going to win the Breeders Cup!"She was undefeated until the Breeders Cup when she came in fourth. She was very versatile, winning on synthetic and grass. She won CA bred Horse of the Year. And yes, she did put Joe Talamo on the map. (He is one of my favorite jockeys) I was very shocked to hear that she had to be euthanized. I was very sad about that! She was my favorite filly!

  5. I loved Nashoba's Key.  Even though she lost to Lahoodood in the Breeders last year, I think she was the top female grass horse of 2007.  She was a great horse... she had a big undefeated streak last year.  I was really sad when I heard that she got hurt and had to be put down.

  6. This is why I follow harness racing as opposed to thoroughbreds. There isn't a year that goes by that some horse doesn't get busted up and is euthanized. It makes me so sad, so I don't even watch anymore.

That very rarely happens in harness racing.

  7. she won her comeback race this year...a very good horse...
