Nashua Titans' opener Henry Davids was expecting national call – Cricket News Update
Nashua http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Henry-Davids-c62423, who has recently been included in South Africa's T20 squad for the New Zealand series, has said that he was expecting a call up from the national selectors after proving himself in the domestic circuit.
"I was hoping that it was going to happen but you never know. People talked in the papers that I might be getting a chance to play," said the right-handed top-order batsman during an exclusive interview with Cricket365.
"I hoped that it would happen, especially with the season I've been having so far," Davids added further.
The Titans’ limited-overs skipper made a name for himself as an aggressive batsman during the Champions League T20 tournament in South Africa in October. The 32-year-old right-handed batsman top scored with 59 not out in the CLT20 and finished fifth on the tournament’s run getting table.
Davids, who also bowls a handy right-arm medium pace, has also been impressive in the Momentum One Day Cup, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808.
The startling run earned the top order batsman the CSA selectors’ nod for the forthcoming three-match home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, starting in Durban on December 21, 2012.
Cricket South Africa’s convenor of selectors http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Charles-Hudson-c44308 has also hinted at handing Davids his international cap come the match against the Black Caps in Durban next Saturday, saying his services will be required for the T20 leg of the home series late this month.
Despite all this, the Titans' limited overs skipper said that he was not realistically expecting the call from Hudson.
"I was kind of expecting it but I didn't want to keep my hopes alive because sometimes it can be a very big disappointment if it doesn't happen," stated the top-order batsman.
Davids, who has also played for his native franchise http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 in the past, has so far played 92 first class matches scoring 5193 runs at an average of 32.66. The right-hander boasts an average exceeding 30 in List A cricket, and has a tally of 1314 runs, including a highest score of 112 not out, from 71 Twenty20 appearances.
