Nashville Predators' defenseman Ryan Suter breaks silence, declines on signing before deadline –NHL
Contract negotiations are always a thing of concern for not only the teams but for the players as well since staying with a team of their liking is not easy, but in the curious case of Nashville Predators’ defenseman, Ryan Suter, finally broke the silence
and declined on signing back with the team before the deadline on February 27, 2012.
According to the potential unrestricted free agent later on this summer, Ryan Suter, said that there is not point to re-signing right now along with adding that he had conveyed this thinking to his team officially, which was something they were afraid of
all season long.
Suter also termed that he would be with Nashville till early July, so negotiating something right now, distracting him from performing would be useless.
"I don't see the point of doing it," Suter said. "It would be a distraction at this point. I will still be with Nashville until July 1, and we could still get something done."
Expressing his views during the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game weekend, Suter described the current deadline as not being enough time to negotiate a long-term deal, which is something he is looking forward to.
Fellow defenseman and teammate, Shea Weber, who at the moment is the highest paid player in his position throughout the league, has also joined Suter in terming the decision as not important but saying that he had wanted to be saying it for a while now.
"I was surprised maybe that it took that long for him to get that off his chest," Weber said Friday. "Obviously, we talk a lot. It’s been weighing for him a while. Obviously [Preds GM] David [Poile] has been trying to get a deal done. Ryan doesn’t want to
deal with it now and that’s why he came forward and said that today."
It will now be the team to make the next move as Nashville Predators will certainly be discussing the matter in the boardroom now on whether what to do with Ryan Suter, who has plans of getting his money’s worth next time when they sit down to negotiate.
