Nashville Predators Defenseman Hal Gill happy to have teammate and captain Shea Weber back –NHL Update
Hal Gill, an American professional Ice Hockey player, who plays for Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League (NHL), is very happy to have his fellow blue liner Shea Weber back into the team after signing a new deal.
Three of the Nashville Predators’ defensemen, including Hal Gill, Ryan Suter and Shea Weber became free agents at the end of last season, with Gill and Suter being unrestricted and Weber being restricted one.
37-year-old, Hal Gill signed a new deal with Predators on 28th June, which was a two-year deal for $4 million. But on 4th July, Ryan Suter signed a 14-year deal for $98 million with Minnesota Wild.
Few days later on 18th July, his fellow defence-liner, Shea Weber looked to be going out of Nashville, Tennessee based side when Philadelphia Flyers made an interesting offer sheet for him, which was for 14 years and $110 million.
Concord, Massachusetts born player had his fingers crossed and was hoping that Predators will match Flyers’ offer to keep Weber and that they did a week later resulting in Gill’s satisfaction and joy.
6-foot-7, 241 pounder, Gill had the views that it would have been very difficult without Weber as he said,
“If you take Webs out of that, it’s a whole different story and you start to question whether they’re going to rebuild or what’s going to happen”.
He also told that he has re-signed because he wants to win and he was wondering what would happen as he added,
“Of course, I signed and my ultimate goal is to win. I wouldn’t say it was a panic mode, but I was definitely interested in what was going to happen.”
About Suter he was of the view that he is happy to let Suter go and supporting him as he said,
“With Ryan it’s about letting him go and play and supporting him. He has all the tools to be effective. He needs someone to help him out. I think that’s where I can come in.”
Next season will be Gill’s 15th in the NHL and second with Predators and they are the 5th NHL team that he is representing. Selected 207th overall in the 1993 NHL draft, he made his debut in 1997-1998 for Boston Bruins and
has since played 1070 games, scored 36 goals and 148 assists and total 184 points.
