Nashville Predators' Pekka Rinne wins 100th with 3-0 shutout of Anaheim Ducks -NHL Match Update
Pekka Rinne worked hard to earn his 100th career victory in his sixth season in the National Hockey League (NHL) with Nashville and certainly captured it in a big way by blocking all Anaheim shots on his net as the Predators shutout the Ducks, 3-0, Saturday night, October 29, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
Other than winning his 100th matchup, Rinne also established another career record by recording his 22nd shutout, the most by anyone who has been a goalie for the Nashville Predators franchise.
"They are individual stats and records, but they are also team records. I'm really proud. There have been great goalies in this organization. Being able to do these things is more than I ever imagined", said Rinne after the matchup against Anaheim on Saturday.
Nashville went ahead 2-0 at the end of the first period after Patric Hornqvist scored his second of the season only 14 seconds into the contest and Martin Erat opened his scoring with 1:01 left to play.
Brian McGrattan and George Parros exchanged fists in the first 20 minutes and were awarded a five-minute major for fighting.
Both clubs remained scoreless in the second period and managed to kill of their respective penalties while young defenseman, Shea Weber, made his first of the season during a power play early in third, which would be the insuring goal for Nashville.
The Predators earned their second straight victory after edging the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-3, earlier on Thursday. They are certainly playing well since the season began on Friday, October 7, but according to Weber, they still have a lot more potential which they are still not fully using.
"We're getting better", Weber said. "I still don't think we are as good as we can be. We haven't quite played a 60-minute game".
Nashville lost Mike Fisher once again during the first period due to a potential upper body injury. Fisher made a comeback a few games ago after recovering from a shoulder surgery over the preseason. At the moment, there is not any concrete information on Fisher’s condition, but updates can be expected in the upcoming days.
