Nashville Predators’ captain Shea Weber struggling to get over playoff elimination – NFL News
Nashville Predators’ captain, Shea Weber expressed facing difficulties in getting over the loss against Phoenix Coyotes in the Western Conference playoff semi-finals, and thus, focusing on his future in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Weber’s current contract will expire by the end of June 2012, and the player has a number of options awaiting him to determine his future course.
One of them is to negotiate fresh terms with Predators, which will help him stay in Nashville for a number of years that both sides agree in a possible new deal.
He can also make himself available in the free agency by becoming an unrestricted free agent from July 01, 2012.
Predators can also assign their franchise tag on the player, while allowing him to become a restricted free agent, and thereby match offers from other parties the player can possibly attract on his tender to bring him back to the squad, if required.
Furthermore, he can enter a salary arbitration with his current employers, and help himself win a new one or two-year deal.
The captain refused to talk about his plans.
According to Weber, he is still preoccupied by the team’s loss to Coyotes.
He said:
“Right now, I really don’t think we’re thinking about that side of things. It was tough (to lose to the Coyotes). It’s not easy to be going home right now. When I’m done thinking about the playoffs and what could have been and what happened.”
He added:
“Yeah, who knows? When the time (comes) to think about that, I’ll think about it. But obviously the team was committed and that’s what you want. Every year you want to fill in holes you have and I think we did a great effort in trying to make things better.
It just didn’t work out.”
In any case, both, Predators and Weber would have to decide in the near future whether they want to continue their association for more seasons to come. Otherwise, the player will have to think of possible alternatives.
