Nashville Predators come with equally better offer than Philadelphia Flyers for Shea Weber
Few days back Philadelphia Flyers had made a very huge and interesting offer to Shea Weber and were looking favourite to bring the defense to their team but now suddenly Nashville Predators have come up with an even interesting and equally better offer.
The Nashville Predators came up with the same package as Philadelphia Flyers but it was not expected that they would match such a huge offer. Philadelphia had earlier offered Shea Weber a contract for 14 years, for which he was to be given $110 million and
was going to earn as high as $14 million for every year after including bonuses, in first four years.
Philadelphia Flyers were looking clear favourites to obtain the services of Weber as Nashville Predators had time until 11 pm Wednesday to match the deal or they would have lost their captain to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based team. Stats also showed that
there might not be many chances of them matching the deal as there has been just one case out of six cases since lockout in 2005 that the offer sheet was matched by the team to retain their played.
Even Philadelphia Flyers were very much sure that they had got the deal done; they were excited and were even very close to start imagining playing with Shea Weber as Flyers’ forward and alternate captain, Danny Briere wrote in a text,
"It's pretty exciting, but we have to wait a little more before we can imagine what it would be like to have him in our lineup”.
The Nashville, Tennessee based team definitely did not afford to lose the player that has been their captain since 2010 and has not only lead but lead well as they finished 4th in the Western Conference and 2nd in the Central Division
last season whereas they finished at the same spot in their division and one rank below at 5th, the year before. They had already lost one of their star defenseman and alternate captain, Ryan Suter to Minnesota Wild.
Jarrett Bousquet, agent of Shea Weber told Weber is very happy on this move and said,
"He's good. He's glad to be back. He's really happy that ownership made the commitment to him. When I spoke to him, he was going to meet with (Predators coach Barry Trotz) and he's really looking forward to getting back to work."
