Nashville Predators edge out ahead 3-2 in the dying stages to win the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets
The second game of Sunday was hosted by the Nashville Predators at the Bridgestone Arena as they squared off against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both teams are out of the play-off cut for now but a win for either of teams would put them in the play-off cut
with who could later put them out of the spot with a win.
The Blue Jackets were leading as the final 20 minutes of game started. However, the Predators were able to step up their game which saw them levelling the scores and then scoring the winner in the dying stages to win the game 3-2 in the end. David Legwand,
centre of the Predators was named the star of the game for scoring the winning goal.
Both the teams were well aware of the importance of an early goal. Coupled with this was another thing that both teams are among some of the strong counter attacking teams in the league. This resulted in both teams reluctant to go on the attacks early on.
However, things changed a little as the period progressed shots on goals started become more frequent. Though both teams had definite scoring chances but there were not able to score early on in the period. The defence of both teams was also very strong
and didn’t allow any goal throughout the period.
The period ended with the scores level on 0-0 with the Blue Jackets making 5 goal attempts while the Blue Jackets managed to come up with 6 shots on goal.
The second started on a high for the Predators but the problem in the front line continued as shots continuously went wide of the target. With the passage of time, the Blue Jackets got better and better and constructed some brilliant pieces of play.
A goal was finally scored in the 15th minute for the Blue Jackets who scored through Matt Calvert during power play to get into the lead. Both teams finished the period on high, firing shots on goal every now and then but unfortunately there was
no further change in the score line.
The period ended with the Blue Jackets leading 1-0 at the end of the period as they made 12 goal attempts in the period while the Predators could manage just 9.
The final 20 minutes were thoroughly entertaining with both teams on the attack right from the word go. The Predators scored an early goal in the second minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Shea Weber during power play from a quick fired and
well placed shot.
The Predators were amazing in their plays and scored once again in the 8th minute and scored through Jonathan Blum’s powerful strike to get into the lead. However, the joy was short-lived as the Blue Jackets scored through Kris Russell during
power play to level the scores.
It looked as if the game was heading into overtime when the Predators out of nowhere scored through David Legwand’s backhand shot in the 19th minute. The period ended with the Predators winning the game 3-2 in the end.
During the period, the Predators made 13 goal attempts while the Blue Jackets ended the period with 10 shots on goal.
