Nashville Predators grab third by dominating Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 -NHL Update
Nashville also showed some thrilling capability on Monday, January 23, 2012, with their third straight victory against the Columbus Blues Jackets as the Predators found their target and dominated, 4-1, at the sold-out Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee,
United States.
Columbus goalie, Steve Mason, tried hard to keep Nashville out of the net during the first two periods, but as the Predators found ways despite his struggle, his 25 save performance was futile in the end.
"Our goalie was good in the first, made some big saves to keep it a one-nothing game, keep us in it, at least", said Columbus interim coach, Todd Richards, whose squad dropped its third straight. "And then, absolutely, their goalie was great to keep it a
1-1 game. We had lots of opportunities to take a lead in the game and he ended up being a difference in that point of the game".
The Blue Jackets have been trying extremely hard over the season to get their act straight, which involved signing on some big name players over the offseason and even firing their coach, Scott Arniel, recently, but their woes do not seem to be ending anytime
soon.
On the other hander, Nashville continued to play with courage and showed their determination to keep picking up those two points every night.
"All the pieces are going really well", said Nashville goalie, Pekka Rinne, "and power play has been really good and our penalty kill has been really good. Just defensively as a group”.
Mike Fisher kicked off the scoring with his 10th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season off an assist by Martin Erat.
Rick Nash added Columbus’ first of the night nearly midway through while Fisher potted his second straight on a quick power play opportunity as Columbus was charged with having too many men on the ice.
Matt Halischuk and Patric Hornqvist fuelled the Nashville fire by adding two straight at crucial moments in the third period, which ultimately decided the game.
Nashville will be heading on the road to face-off against Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday while Blue Jackets go against Tampa Bay Lightning the same day.
