Nashville Predators looking to meet Philadelphia Flyers offer for Shea Weber -NHL Update
Maybe Nashville Predators were just waiting on someone to make the offer as the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise made it official that they would be making and matching the bid made to top league defenseman, Shea Weber, after Philadelphia Flyers signed
him on to their qualifying offer.
Philadelphia Flyers rocked the NHL when they made a 10-year, $110 million qualifying offer to Shea Weber in recent days, which certainly took over headlines in the hockey world. Predators were expected to start feeling the pressure of possibly losing a second
defenseman to the free agency, but are playing it smart.
Nashville has one week to decide and make the offer, other Shea Weber will be going to Philadelphia, according to his agent, Jarrett Bousquet, said in an interview with AM-1050 in Toronto.
But, in another series of revelations, Bousquet also disclosed that Weber wants to play in Philadelphia with the Flyers, not only due to the electrifying hockey environment of the city but also due to them having a solid chance at winning the Stanley Cup.
“I don’t think you signed an offer sheet unless you’re pointing in that one direction,” agent Jarrett Bousquet said. “He would like to play with the Philadelphia Flyers because we all feel he’s just another piece in the puzzle to take them to the next level
and he doesn’t want to go through a rebuilding process again.”
David Poile is committed on meeting the offer but will only do so after taking into consideration the details and complexities.
“We are in receipt of the offer sheet signed between the Philadelphia Flyers and Shea Weber. Under the rules pertaining to an offer sheet, the Predators have one week to decide whether to match or accept the compensation,” the general manager said.
Shea Weber was picked up by the Nashville Predators as the 49th overall back in round-two of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
During the 2011-2012 NHL regular season, Shea Weber put up an impressive 49 point (19 goals, 30 assists) total in 78 games played with an even better plus-minus rating of 21 and 46 minutes in penalty time.
