Nashville Predators plays host to Atlanta Thrashers in the final meeting between the two teams this season
Nashville Predators will play host Tuesday’s game to Atlanta Thrashers at the Bridgestone Arena. This will be the second and final meeting between the two teams during the course of regulation season.
The lone meeting between the two teams in the season so far took place on the 6th of December 2010 that saw the game going into overtime after the scores were level on 1-1. However, Thrashers emerged as 3-2 winners of the game after Zach Bogosian
scored the winning goal in overtime.
Predators had a good chance of winning the Central Division but Detroit Red Wings had other things in mind as it defeated Predators and then rallied past Minnesota Wild to clinch the title.
All that Predators will be looking to do is to finish as high as possible so as to increase the chances of playing on home ice once the playoffs begin.
A loss for Dallas Stars in its next game against Blue Jackets and a win for Predators would assure it of a place in the playoffs. However, Predators has a very good chance of finishing in the fourth spot in the Western Conference.
Predators has been absolutely brilliant lately as it has won seven out of its last eight games. The only loss came against Red Wings which hurt its chances of Division title.
The games started off with Predators establishing a three goal advantage. However, its defence proved to be vulnerable and couldn’t deal with the pressure.
Red Wings came back to level the scores on 3-3 after regulation time and the game went into overtime where Red Wings scored to win the game by 4-3 in the end.
"That was definitely a frustrating one to lose that way", Predators’ forward, Mike Fisher, said. "The bright side is we got a point, and they're all important right now".
Predators has played 79 games during the course of the season out of which it has won 42 games in regulation time, 11 games in overtime, scoring a total of 95 points.
Thrashers, on the other hand, has played 78 games out of which it has won 33 games in regulation time and 12 games in overtime to score a total of 78 points.
Atlanta Thrashers is out of the playoff’s contention but it needs to win the game which would give it a chance of finishing with a points percentage better than 0.5.
Thrashers is currently on a five-game road trip out of which it has played four and has one to go against Predators now.
Apart from the 3-2 loss against Boston Bruins, Thrashers has been very impressive in the road trip.
"I felt like we had a good start of the season. Other teams made up the ground", Thrashers’ forward, Bryan Little, said, noting that Thrashers went 4-17 over most of January and February. "We've been playing better here of late, but you can't take that much
time off like we did".
The game will be very interesting, considering the fact that Thrashers will give it its best shot as it attempts to hurt Predators’ chances of making it to the playoffs.
