Nashville Predators re-sign Jonathon Blum to one-year, two-way contract -NHL Update
The Nashville Predators continued working the offseason despite a serious threat of another lockout to the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season by re-signing defenseman, Jonathon Blum, to a one-year, two-way deal, which will have him playing in the
minor leagues if a deadlock continues.
It was made official by the franchise on Thursday, September 13, 2012, but is also believed to have included the two-way condition in order for the player to play in the minors in case a lockout does come into play, allowing the defender to continue performing
in some way or another without committing a breach of contract.
Blum’s previous entry-level contract was originally one for three years, but ended up lasting five since the first two season were not seen to have him performing as he officially started played in the NHL during the 2010-2011 NHL regular season after a
season with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL).
It is now believed that his new deal will be paying him a cool $650,000 for performing in the major league while a $105,000 offer is up for grabs if the situation forces him to return to the minor leagues and continue performing on a smaller scale.
Blum, a 23-year-old native of Long Beach, California, was picked up as the 23rd overall player back in round-one of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and is still yet to really have a breakout season and prove his worth to the world of hockey.
In a total of two seasons, the defender has been shifting from the major league and back to the minors and has a total of 56 games played in the NHL with 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists) and 14 minutes in penalty time.
He also has some playoff experience as he helped the Nashville Predators break the quarterfinal barrier back in 2011 and get them to the Western Conference semi-finals for the first time and had 12 games and two assists to his name during that time frame.
It will be exciting to see how the situation plays out for the youngster.
