Nashville Predators re-sign their alternate captain, veteran forward Mike Fisher for two years
Mike Fisher, a Canadian professional ice hockey player and centre who played most of the years for Ottawa Senators, has re-signed with Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League (NHL) for two more years. He was alternate captain of Predators last
year.
32-year-old Fisher, who was an unrestricted free agent, has been signed for $8.4 million, which means $4.2 million per year, which is exactly the same amount as he was being in the previous contract, which was a five-year deal for $21 million.
The Peterborough, Ontario resident, was originally drafted 44th overall in the 1998 NHL draft by Ottawa Senators and made his NHL debut for them in the following season. He played 11 seasons for Senators, before being traded to Predators in exchange
of Stefan Noesen. Until now, he has played 99 games for Nashville and scored 29 goals, 34 assists for total of 63 points.
Before the deal was announced, Fisher showed his happiness of staying at Nashville and told he loves the place. He thinks it’s an ideal choice for him as he said,
"Obviously I love being here. It's been a great year and a half for me. I love everything about the city. It's just a perfect situation."
The NHL player and Carrie Underwood (his wife and famous singer) have been living in Nashville since they got married so this decision was also influenced by his family life because family life is more important in his opinion. He said,
"Family and lifestyle are obviously most important”.
David Poile, the general manager of Nashville Predators, was obviously relieved at signing the forward as he has gone through a very busy off-season. He lost Ryan Suter to Minnesota Wilds and almost lost Shea Weber to Philadelphia Flyers. Poile is looking
to keep his team intact as he said,
"The off-season was very busy and we were able to accomplish most of our goals. Signing Mike Fisher to a contract extension obviously is a big plus as we move forward to keeping our team intact”.
The 6-foot-1, 217 pounder, Fisher would be looking to use his experience and help Predators do well as he has played 774 NHL games, scoring 196 goals, 215 assists and 411 total points. He had his second best season with Predators in 2011-2012 season by scoring
51 points.
