Nashville Predators sign forward Brandon Yip to one-year, $750,000 deal -NHL offseason Update
Nashville Predators extended their offensive depth on Thursday, June 21, 2012, by re-signing forward, Brandon Yip, to a one-year, two-way contract, which is believed to be worth $750,000 both in the National Hockey League (NHL) or if he is sent to play in
the American Hockey League (AHL).
Brandon Yip was drafted as the 239th player overall during round-eight of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. The Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada native, played in three straight seasons with his original draft team before
being picked up by the Nashville Predators.
In a total of 138 games played so far in his career, the 27-year-old has 48 points (26 goals, 22 assists) in total and could have a breakout season at any moment. The Predators are reported to believe that Yip will emerge big at some moment and have given
him another year to prove it.
Yip was set to become an unrestricted free agent with his two-year contract worth $1.45 million coming to an end this July 1st. It is believed that he was looking for something long term with the Predators but failed in his attempts due to the
lack of offensive depth he provides for the team. A breakthrough season next time around will definitely help in his attempts and score him a longer deal with Nashville or quite possibly another club.
Nashville Predators also signed centre player, Chris Mueller, to a similar one-year, two-way contract the same day. His financial details are believed to be different to Yip as Mueller will be getting $550,000 for playing in the major league or $105,000
at the AHL minor league level.
Mueller, an undrafted player from West Seneca, New York, United States, has appeared in two seasons with Nashville Predators up until now and is still yearning for more exposure. At the age of 26, Mueller has just 19 games under his belt and a point total
of three assists. He played just four games last season and will be looking for more ice time next time around.
With the offseason still progressing, similar updates should be expected from Nashville’s side about more signings.
