My husband and I are thinking about leaving NYC and making a move to TN. Actually , we really dont care we just want to get out of this h**l hole and start a life over in new place. I hear the job market is really good in Nashville and the average home is around 142k. We are in the process of saving 20k and then we plan to rent an apt and eventually buy a home. Can anyone give me any info on which would be better and why? And if you have another suggestion, maybe your city, would you please give me some info on what you like about it? We are Ny'kers so culture and tolerance are very important to us. Thanks in advance!

  1. Nashville is a great city. Lots of things to do and lots of culture. You could rent a really nice apartment for around $600 - $1000 depending on how many bedrooms you require. Nashville is a wonderful place to live. And you can get a great house for way under 142k.

  2. I agree with above- what types of careers and jobs do you need and want?  I am a fashion designer so I am pretty limited but Philadelphia is cheaper then NY and still has lots of jobs.  Plus we are the city of brotherly love- lots of tolerance :)

Plus you have to think if your making $2.50 an hour waitressing is that 142k still sound good!

  3. What are your career objectives???  You probably need to move somewhere that will support those objectives.  There are a lot of places that have reasonable housing.  I just sold a 3 bedroom 1300 sq ft home for $157,000, but it is in rural SD, not much call for dolphin trainers and longshoremen.
