Nasir Jamshed's injury - A serious blow for Pakistan - Part Two
Continued from the previous part...
The 22-year-old cricketer from Lahore made his international debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in 2008 and scored a half-century. Since then, he has been in and out of the national team for various reasons and has so far played just 16 One Day Internationals for Pakistan
in which he has scored 546 runs at an average of 39 runs per innings.
The left-handed batsman, who idealizes the former Australian opener, Mathew Hayden, already has five fifties and a hundred under his belt. On top of that, Nasir’s strike-rate is 99.27 runs per 100 balls, which is absolutely brilliant in international cricket.
The youngster came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country and represented Pakistan Under-19s for many years. He has always been a stroke-player and has the ability to change the course of the game in a short span of time.
However, Nasir is not ready to admit that he is a mere stroke-maker, instead, he sees himself as a complete batsman, who has a full range of shots and can adapt to different circumstances. The left-handed batsmen expressed earlier that his first-class record
speaks for his abilities.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasir-c78728 averages 43.61 in first-class cricket, which is also impressive for an opening batsman who has to cope with the new ball and wicket. He plays his domestic cricket for the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Lahore. The stylish batsman hails from Ludhiana
Gymkhana, which happens to be the club of former Pakistan captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292.
At the start of his career, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamshed-c66276 was associated as someone who plays rash shots and throws away his wickets. However, since the last couple of years, there has been an evident improvement in his abilities and he seems to be a polished cricketer now. It
is a good sign for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 that the youngster is keen to learn and enhance his game.
Nasir admits that he made some mistakes at the start of his international career but with the passage of time, he has realized that one needs to work on the mental side of things as well to excel at the ultimate level of the game.
"I was inexperienced when I made my international debut and playing at that level you are tested thoroughly in all facets of the game. You learn from your mistakes and you improve with time. Who knows what may have happened if I had been given an extended
run in the team" stated Jamshed.
Ahmed Shahzad has made a comeback in the national team after almost a year in the wilderness and will be an ideal candidate to open the innings along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Let us hope that Shehzad is also included in the ODI squad as a replacement for Nasir and the team management does not rely on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Farhat-c64218 once again, who has proved to be a failure over the years. It is better to go in with a youngster rather than having
tried and tested players in the team.
