Nass Botha predicts Springboks will win Rugby World Cup 2011 - Rugby News
As the Rugby World Cup 2011 gets closer, various speculations have been coming out regarding who the new champions will be. Rugby experts are making these predictions based on their experience, evidential circumstances and in some cases to encourage their
home sides. Ex-Springboks player, Nass Botha, has also thrown in his two cents on August 28 and declared his home side as the favourites to win it all this year. the reasons he has given are very interesting. Botha has discarded the Wallabies for the RWC,
while saying that they have won the Tri-Nations Cup which is enough for them.
Rugby World Cup 2011 is kicking off on September 9 in New Zealand and top three ranked IRB sides are the hot favourites to carry the crown. Currently All Blacks, Wallabies and Springboks are placed respectively on the top positions. These three sides have
just competed in the Tri-Nations Cup and Wallabies have emerged as new champs after the absence of one decade.
The Wallabies started off their Tri-Nations journey under immense pressure as they had faced a stunning defeat by the meagre side of Samoa on July 17. They were also tagged as an arrogant side for resting their key players against Samoa. However, the Wallabies
put a stop to their critics by winning the extremely important tournament before RWC 2011.
Expressing his views about the future champs, Botha said that Wallabies have excluded themselves by winning the Tri-Nations Cup. He cited history in this regard and said that, “The result was a little bit of a surprise, but if you analyse the full package,
history shows that whoever wins the Tri-Nations doesn't win the World Cup. After the weekend it means that South Africa and New Zealand can still win the World Cup.”
Talking the Springboks chances to repeat history from 2007, he said that, “If we go according to the Tri-Nations, it means we are not even close to winning the World Cup, and I seriously believe we can win the World Cup if you look at the squad they announced.”
Rugby World Cup 2011 is now in touching distance with less than two weeks remaining in the kick off.
