Nassau, Bahamas Safe?

Question

Is the Bahamas safe for 4 young college girls to go for summer vacation? I know that staying at the resort will be fine, but what about going shopping in the markets and touring the town?

you should be ok esp since if something happens to you, they know that no one will ever go there again and lose complete tourism revenues.  Plus, most of the shops are near the resorts but just to make sure ask the ppl at the resorts.

Shopping downtown or at marina village is easy and safe.  Touring downtown and the historical / government areas are safe as well. (in fact, during the daytime.. it's pretty safe everywhere).

At nite, downtown shops and businesses are closed, so it's not the place to be.  But the clubs/bars etc along the wharf and Bay street are fine.. Just don't walk outside the main areas. (you'll know the difference - believe me).

You can taxi to places like Green parrot/Lucianos for dinner and drinks.. or head downtown to Senor Frogs and Hard Rock with no safety issues.  

Just like any other major city, there are good and bad aspects, so be aware of your surroundings, don't take rides from  strangers, and stay with your friends.  

As much as I love the Bahamas.. things happen, even in paradise.

One more word of advise.  Bahamian men (young and old) are a bit aggressive and very charming.  Some make a living out of hitting on women.  HIV/AIDS is an issue in the bahamas, so don't be swayed by these letharios.  They have a new women every week.

Why would Bahamas be unsafe??

Even if you are in group, why should Nassau be unsafe??

Just take caution as in London!!!!

Well, sorry if London is insecure and I'm comparing it with Nassau. Just I've never been out of my continent: North America.
